Catti is an energetic Australian Cattle Dog  mix.

Catti would make an excellent agility or frisbee dog.  This girl is fast and can really jump.

She is doing very well in her foster home.  She gets along very well with the 4 other dogs (3 are also Cattle Dog crosses).

Although still a playful pup, she has a very sweet and gentle nature.  She loves to lie by her foster mom's chair.

Typical of a Cattle Dog, she is a Velcro Dog.  She wants to be with her person, no matter what kind of boring things her person is doing.

She is the sweetest of dogs, great with people and other dogs. She is happy, wiggly, energetic, and plays until she crashes. She loves kids of all ages but is very "busy" for younger children - she settles down quickly, however, and gives lots of kisses and nose nibbles.

Catti is currently attending group obedience classes and is doing very well.  She is very smart.  She knows here (I use that instead of come as that is the herding command) sit, stay, lie down, wait and she walks very nicely on the leash.  She also will sit or lie down quietly by your side if you stop to talk with someone.

Since Catti is a herding breed she will more than likely try to run the house if she can. Cattle dogs need someone who will assert themselves and take the lead position so they can relax and be the companion they is.

Catti would do best in a home with another youngish dog that she can play with or someone or a family that is willing to give her a job to do.  (Obedience,  agility,  herding or other dog sports)

If you are interested in Catti, please do your homework on the breed to
understand her future needs!

ACDs are a herding breed.  They were bred to drive cattle all day in harsh conditions.  This means they are very active most of the day.  It is the rare ACD that doesn't need something to do all day.  If they have no outlet for that energy, i.e., another active dog or human companionship, they can become barkers, destructive, or runners.  ACDs can go over a 6 foot fence with ease if they are so inclined.  They are great with your kids and will usually protect them from intruders (i.e., the neighborhood kid that pushes or hits one of yours).  They will also herd kids into a corner and keep them there if they feel the need to quiet them down and keep them together.  Some can be aggressive with other dogs and will rarely back down from a fight.  This is true of both sexes.  As a pet they absolutely must have basic obedience, and know you are the top dog.  They do not take to rough handling but will usually bend over backward for their "human" when worked with positive reinforcement.

ACDs are smart, quick learning dogs, that excel in obedience, agility and herding trials.  Their "wash and wear" coats need little maintenance.  A brushing twice a week and tick or flea checks daily are about it.  Baths should be given only when necessary to retain the oil in the coat.  They are the right size for traveling, and will protect your vehicle and belongings without hesitation.  They bond well with the family but usually will pick out their special "human".  They expect honesty and fairness from you and will demand it.  In the right home they are a wonderful, lifelong companion.
The Australian Cattle Dog is an EXTREMELY active breed, with mental stimulation being of paramount importance. A bored Cattle Dog is a destructive Cattle Dog !! The Australian Cattle Dog is a social breed that NEEDS to be with "its people". This is NOT a breed to leave chained or penned in the back yard....such isolation will lead to SERIOUS personality problems !! Because the Australian Cattle Dog is an active breed, a firm commitment must be made to exercise. ACDs make excellent running or biking companions although care must be taken not to over exert the young dog. Because of their intelligence, ACDs make WONDERFUL obedience prospects . Australian Cattle Dogs are also known to excell at Dog Sports such as Flyball, Agility and Frisbee competition. The sky is the limit when your companion of choice is an ACD !!
